November 7, 2016: Alaska Tuff

Alaskan kids are seriously resilient to crazy weather.  We go outside for recess in the rain, snow, wind, or ice.  I've seen kids rip off their jackets and try to run around in a tshirt when it's raining and 40 degrees outside.  I've seen kids completely wipe out on icy blacktop, pick themselves up, and sprint across it again.  The other day I was trying to get a kid to not play on this huge, slippery patch of ice.  He asked me, "Don't you believe in Santa?  Because if you do, then you know that Jack Frost works with him.  And Jack Frost brings us the snow and ice because he wants us to be kids and have fun."  It's very hard to argue with that.
