We began a new math unit on measurement today. We have begun many of our new units with some sort of provocation - we give them various materials, ask an open-ended question, and let them explore. Today we gave them various paper of different lengths, various sets of objects (some good for measuring and some definitely not), and asked them ¨What can you tell us about the size of these papers?" It served as a great pre-test. My kids know very little about choosing good units to measure and then measuring accurately. Lots to learn!
