Cam and his family came over for Thanksgiving dinner. We spent the day running from his nerf gun and watching him pretend to play the wii. He learned to say my name today. Manny. Love it. Right before he left, he got his coat on...upside down. I want to take him home with me.

November 21, 2012: Dance party
Students got to choose what they wanted to do for their party time. We had snacks, movie, and a dance party. As you can imagine, I cracked up the whole time. :)
November 18, 2012: Happy (early) Thanksgiving!
Cary and Katie dig into the ham. Next up, the turkey. The meal (and friend time) was a success! I am very thankful for the new friends I have met and gotten close to over the past six months. They have been a blast.
November 17, 2012: A family tradition
For the last few years, we have hosted a Thanksgiving meal the Sunday before Thanksgiving for our friends. The night before, Katie and I rip bread for stuffing while watching Jurassic Park. This year was no different.
November 16, 2012: Party Time!
Congratulations, Second Graders!! After nearly 3 months in school, we finally earned our party for good behavior. It has been a long, trying journey at times, but I am really proud of the students' progress. For being one of the "wildest" group of kids in the school, they have come a very long way!!
November 14, 2012: iphone texting wonders
At small group tonight, we discovered Kristen finally got a smartphone. Even better, she got an iPhone, which means she can text these cool icons to us. Jennie introduced us to the concept of creating entire scenes.

November 13, 2012: First snow
Two days ago, it was 70 degrees, last night, it snowed. Just enough to have a tiny bit on my car this morning. Crazy Midwest weather :)
November 12, 2012: Chicago Fire
I was almost a tv star.
They are filming the show "Chicago Fire" outside of my apartment today. Kate and I walked by to snoop a little. We stopped next to two other people who were standing near the set as well. I began snapping a couple of pictures and commenting on how I didn't recognize any of the actors. We stood there for a few minutes when the director finally asked us to move so they could film. I shouted to him, "Ok, but if you need any extras, we live in that house. Just come grab us." The filming crew laughed at me (shocker), but I know deep down they wanted us. As we walked away, we realized that the two people who were standing near us were actually part of the show. We were literally standing in the way, because as soon as we left, they began filming, and the two people were filmed walking across the street."
Kate said she would pay me if I turned around and ran down the street yelling, "FIRE! There's a fire right there!"
November 11, 2012: Addiction
Addiction or unhealthy obsession? I can't get it figured out. I do know that I crave it weekly. Every as I write this post and look at the picture again, I am wondering if I have enough time to run quickly before small group in 20 minutes....
November 10, 2012: Chess, Harry Potter Style
At the Showplace Icon theater, they just put these giant chess boards near the escalators. I couldn't help but think about when Hermione, Ron, and Harry had to play the life size game of chess while in the Chamber of Secrets. I love that after reading that, half of you are nodding your ahead in agreement and smiling at the memory, and half of you are rolling your eyes at me.

November 9, 2012: fried egg burger
YUM. A burger, bacon, chesse, avacado, mayo, and a fried egg, all on a pretzel bun. Thank you, Cary, for introducing me to this deliciousness.
November 8, 2012: Love song
One of my students gave me this song she wrote. I think it translates to "Six days away I told you I didn't fall in love. I told you I didn't fall in love so I made a decision. I said no, you got me beating myself up. I know I won't stay here."
Decently poetic. She sang it to me and I about died. Where do these kids get this stuff? This is the same day when one of my other students yelled at me from the bathroom, "Ms. Kistler, I am going to be here a while. I have so many poops in me right now."
Can you see why I love my job?
November 7, 2012: forgetful franny
I am running out of creative ways to take pictures of my closet/ceiling from my bed. I better stop forgetting my daily picture until I am already in bed for the night.
November 6, 2012: Election Day
I am a walking contradiction. I come to school teaching students about the importance of voting, walk them through a simulated voting experience, let them "vote" in our very own school made voting booth, then decide at the end of the day that I am too exhausted to stand in line at the poles. Should it make me feel better that the candidate I would have voted for won anyway?
November 5, 2012: Harvest (dance) Par-tay
Our school celebrated their 2nd annual Harvest Fest tonight. Having such a diverse student body, students brought in food from all over the world. We ended the night with an incredible dance party.
November 4, 2012: Sweet Success
After minimal training, we finished the Hot Chocolate 15k and thoroughly enjoyed our fondue treat. Thanks for such a great weekend, Tisa!
November 3, 2012: Jellies!
Tisa and I went to Shedd Aquarium today to check out the new exhibits. This was my first time seeing all of the jellies. They were awesome!
November 2, 2012: International Student hangout
We got to spend tonight celebrating fall and meeting some new international students. It was an awesome night of fun and fellowship (and some of the most delicious fall cider).
November 1, 2012: Hairy=sexy, right?
I haven't shaved in a long time. It got itchy, so I finally shaved one leg (I was saving the other leg because I knew Tisa was visiting the next day and I knew she would appreciate seeing how long it was).
I can't believe I just shared that with the world. Love me anyways, please!

October 31, 2012: 14lbs of pure goodness
Happy Halloween! I love seeing the kids in costumes. Unfortunately, we don't get a lot of traffic at my house since my street is less residential. This year, mom bought me a 14 pound box of pretzel m&ms. While I love the idea of having m&ms for the next three years, I thought it might be better for my health if I gave some to trick-or-treaters. I grabbed a lawn chair, walked a couple blocks to the residential part of my neighborhood, and set up camp on the sidewalk.
I made sure to head back in before all my candy was gone. While it feels great to give, it feels even better knowing I still have chocolate for the next month :)

October 30, 2012: I helped with this!!
My friends and I were volunteering tonight. I was in this professor's office and saw this greeting card on his bookshelf. This is a mural in Chicago that my youth group helped to paint when I was in high school. I got really excited to see it on a card!!
October 29, 2012: A dome like daddy
On our way back to Chicago, Meg got another ultrasound. She found out Arthur is growing well and he is healthy. She also found out his head is measuring 2 weeks larger than the rest of him. He is going to have a big head, and I can't wait. I am going to LOVE this kid!!
The picture is coming. Again, an actual ultrasound picture is way cooler than anything I would have taken today. Just waiting for Meg to email it to me.
October 27, 2012: Hot Momma
I took a great picture of Meagan posing next to the palm trees at her baby shower. This picture is on my camera (as opposed to my phone) and I am far too lazy to get off the couch and retrieve it right now. I promise to add it later.
October 26, 2012: Happy Hippo
Meagan's baby shower is tomorrow, and it is jungle themed. We came home to a counter full of fondant-made jungle animals. Aunt Cindy, LuAnn, and Nicky have some impressive molding skills. I tried to make a hippo. I think he's decently cute.
October 25, 2012: WORLD SERIES!
Tigers are in the World Series! I have a hunch that my evenings will be spent in front of the tv for at least the next few days!
GO TIGERS!
October 24, 2012: Fall Run
Stretching in the leaves, on a crisp fall afternoon is bliss.
On a side note, I have really hairy legs right now. Haven't shaved in over a month. It was warm today, so I wore shorts on my run, and I actually felt my leg hair blowing in the wind. It was awkward and awesome.
